The CTA is always ready to welcome new members who are actively involved in some way in the promotion of theology through their teaching, preaching or writing. Some of our members are distinguished academics in universities or seminaries working in theology departments or fields relevant to theology. Lecturers or researchers in fields other than theology — for example philosophy, anthropology, literature, science and so on — who are interested in making connections with theology are welcome to consider membership. Many members are also active in pastoral work, and are keen to make theological sense of their work.
CTA conferences are organized by the Committee on behalf of members. Guests may be invited to Conference by members and others wishing to attend may apply directly to the Secretary.
Applications for membership are considered by the Association Committee on a regular basis. You can complete a membership application form using the link to the left, and send it to the Secretary, Patricia Kelly (patricia.kelly@dunelm.org.uk ) together with a CV and the names of two CTA referees. Please do not send any membership fees or set up a Standing Order until you have been notified that your application has been successful.
The annual subscription to The Catholic Theological Association of Great Britain (CTA) from 2011 is £30 (£20 for students and unwaged in consultation with the Secretary), which entitles a member to all the benefits of the Association plus a free copy of the issue of New Blackfriars containing the papers delivered at the annual conference. Subscriptions are due on 5th March each year and failure to pay for two years is counted as automatic resignation.
Members may also take out membership of the European Society for Catholic Theology (ESCT) at an additional cost of £30 (combined subs £60, students & unwaged £50).
All members are encouraged to pay their subscription by Bank Standing Order and combined subscriptions may only be paid in this way. As a registered charity, the CTA is entitled to reclaim tax paid on subscriptions. If you pay income tax, please consider signing a Gift Aid form as the tax reclaimed makes a significant addition to the Association’s income and helps support bursaries for students and other members in need of support.
