Conference

2008: Vatican II and the Church to Come

Ushaw College, Durham 8-11 September 2008

Looking back to the landmark Second Vatican Council and forward to the Church of the future, the conference will focus on the challenge of giving embodiment to and providing the means for the Church to fulfil its mission in the historical era that is now emerging.

These challenges, in their full scope and depth, will be the vantage point for a re-reading of both the documents of Vatican II, in particular its four Constitutions, and the ecclesial event that was the Council, with a view to discerning “the shape of the Church to come”.

Speakers
  • A Theology of the Secular – James Hanvey, SJ
  • Lumen Gentium – the unfinished business – Paul Lakeland
  • Dei Verbum – a study of the text, led by Anthony Towey
  • Church and Culture: Protestant and Catholic Modernities – Anthony Carroll, SJ
  • Developments in Moral Theology (exact title to be confirmed) – Gerard Mannion

The CTA is always ready to welcome new members who are actively involved in some way in the promotion of theology through their teaching.
